New Student Orientation

New international students laugh with Jon Lund.

Dear New Norse,

On behalf of Luther College, welcome to the community! As you begin a new chapter of your journey, we encourage you to learn and appreciate difference with your classmates, staff and faculty. We challenge you to engage in resources that will support you while navigating your personal rights and community responsibility.

New Student Orientation is designed to help first-year and transfer students make a successful transition into the Luther community. During orientation, you will:

  • Learn more about Luther and the college’s academic and community expectations
  • Interact in meaningful ways with other new students, faculty, and staff
  • Gain tools and knowledge to help students be successful
  • Build a community that will support, respect and protect one another

An overview of the orientation schedule is available on the "New Student" website. Students will have their own interactive schedules that can be viewed on KATIE.

For those new students planning or interested in participating in music at Luther Please visit our web pages for Orchestra and Choral auditions. These are all housed under our general Ensembles page.

In this time of pandemic, community safety is our shared responsibility. With this in mind we have shifted from a large group orientation program to a hybrid online and in-person onboarding for new students.

Move-in will be staggered to allow for physical distancing and all new students are assigned to an orientation group. Your orientation group will abide by the guidelines outlined on the Being Community website. Physical distancing does not mean isolation and students will connect with their small groups of peers in person and move through orientation together. Each group will have a peer guide leader who will support you and will connect with you and you orientation group throughout the month of September.

Welcome home,

The Orientation Team
